Reflection

KINETICS AND REACTOR DESIGN

I think this subject is good and interesting. Our lecturer Assos. Prof. Dr.Suzana is very experienced and tries to deliver knowledge of Kinetics and Reactor Design through her own teaching style. Every class she first explains us the topic and then we all solve problems related to that topic. This gives us chance to see how we can apply the formulas that we have just seen during her explanation. As for me this style of teaching is good because I can see and better understand how to solve problems related to each topic that we have covered so far.

PROCESS SAFETY AND LOSS PREVENTION

This subject reminds me of another subject that we have studied during our second year second semester which is Health, Safety and Environment (HSE). Even the lecturer Dr.Dzulkarnain is the same, the difference is that here we have many problems and formulas to solve these problems. And his style of teaching is similar to Assos. Prof. Dr. Suzana. He prints out the lecture notes of the topic that he is going to teach us on that day and explains everything and then at the end of the class he gives us 2 to 3 problems to solve, we have to solve them and submit as an assignment. So because of these small assignments at the end of the class I can see students paying attention to what he explains so that later they can solve the given problems, which is a good teaching style for me.

CHEMICAL PROCESS DESIGN, INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROLS

This subject is definitely the hardest among all. The fact that we have a new lecturer Dr. Abbas Azarpour who has never taught us before makes it a bit tougher, since it is his first semester in UTP. But he is definitely a good lecturer who tries his best to make our lives easier for us. He explains everything and gives examples so that we can first try to solve them and later he explains himself how to solve them and we can check and find out our mistakes. Overall I think we will manage to do fine for this subject.

Reflections on the board game

After series of long considerations we have stopped on idea of game called “Avione”, this game has a lot of similarities with the game called “Battleship”. Our aim was to change the concept of this game and try to think out of the ways how we can relate it to our subjects which are Kinetics and Reactor Design, Process Safety and Loss Prevention and Chemical Process Design, Instrumentation and Controls. So the idea is that each player will have a board and 3 planes, and to win this game player must heat all the 3 cockpits of his or her opponent, when player heats other parts of the plane he or she will be asked questions that are related to 3 subjects that were already listed below.  While doing this project I can tell that I had to learn some new software programs which I hope will help me a lot in the future.

Reflections on the questions posed for KRD, PSLP and CPDIC on the board game

As our group has decided we will prepare 30 questions related to all 3 core subjects that we are interested in. These questions will be of different difficulties (easy, medium and hard). By changing the concept of this game and asking them the questions we are trying to get students interested in those subjects and also deliver it in form of fun so that they will be more willing to learn as much as possible from this game. I hope students will benefit from this game.

Contributions and roles to this project

At first we had to choose the game for our project, so there were several ideas coming from everyone, guys from our group wanted to have a game similar to monopoly. Another member of our group Al Ameerah also had a very good idea of a game which also was similar to idea of monopoly game. Then we all agreed on my idea of changing the concept of “Battleship” game and use it for our project. Later when our lecturer asked us to give short explanations to our games we have seen that there is another group with the same concept of game. So we decided to change our game and Athirah came with the idea of “Avione” game. We have distributed the tasks among our group mates, and everyone was assigned to do his or her part. My part is to bring this board game to live, means to prepare the boards, cards and planes for the game. One of my other tasks is to deeply study KRD and prepare questions for this subject together with Al Ameerah. As for the roles, I think I’m the accuracy coach, checking group understanding and finding recourses.

Suggestions

I think it is a good way of teaching when lecturers make us solve the question in the class and if we don’t understand something we can ask them directly and they can explain, I hope that all of our lecturers will use this kind of teaching style. And if we will have more group projects it will help us to learn furthermore about different kind of people and how to communicate with them, so hope we will have more group projects which will benefit us in the future.
